WALK FOR WELFARE - WALK FOR WOMEN
Motivation and Perseverance
“When you educate a boy, you educate one individual, when you educate a girl you educate a nation” - Larry Summers.
Earth is synonymized as ‘mother’ as it is seen as possessing the same qualities as women. Half the world’s population are women. If a large proportion of global population suffers from daily discrimination, increased risk of assault, and all kind of other outrageous problems, we assert that their empowerment must be a top priority.
Nepalese living in Australia, especially women have been facing challenges that are clearly visible and matter of community concern. Our inspiration and pretext of the approach we have put forward, have been commonly acknowledged. So, at this juncture we are highly motivated to take some impacting actions on Women Empowerment that will no doubt help women and achieve sense of equity contributing to sustain a well-functioning society.
About “Walk for Women”
“Walk for Women” is a nationwide initiative led by Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) Australia, a National Coordination Committee(NCC) of the largest global diasporic organisation: NRNA with a major aim of raising awareness on mental health and domestic violence. With mental health issues being so widespread among population in Australia and rest of the world, it is extremely important to raise awareness, support those around you that are suffering from a mental health problem, and seek help if you feel you are suffering from any form of mental illness or mental health problem. Besides, it is undoubtedly a basic right of every female to stay away from any kind of violence including domestic violence.
There are many issues of domestic violence and mental health within the Nepalese diaspora in Australia. In majority of the cases, it has been observed that the women are the most vulnerable and need support. Adoption of empowerment approach is the best method to encourage women to disclose the violence/abuse they are facing and raising awareness about the issue is the most powerful tool.
What we can do! How it works!
Through Nari Nikunja Australia (NNA), you can connect with hardworking female of Nepalese community who are waiting to realize their dream of building or expanding a successful family and professional life. A small help is all they need. Even better, when the support is rendered, your donated funds are utilised to help more women and make a bigger impact.
When a mother is educated it would have positive impact on health, education, and mores of entire family. Therefore, a penny investment for a woman’s cause would help a society to earn a million. Investing in women is one of the smartest things we can do to promote a healthier and more prosperous world, more importantly for a civilized world Hence, the event is going to be held during the International Woman’s Day (IWD) week and the fund raised from the event will go to NNA initiatives such workshop on domestic violence and mental health Australia wide to range awareness by 2018.
Final Thoughts!
Although incredible progress has been made over the past few years, we can’t stop speaking up to support Nepalese women living in rural Nepal and Nepalese community of Australia. NNA is willing to take you on board for the good cause. Empowering women starts right in our families, workplaces, and neighbourhoods. Write a note of thanks to those who encouraged you disclose your problem in a descent manner, or tell your own sister, daughter, or mother how much you love, support and appreciate.
